“Lanturi” named best at Braunschweig Intl. Film Festival

TEHRAN – Iranian director Reza Dormishian acclaimed acid attack drama “Lanturi” has won the award for best film at the Braunschweig International Film Festival in Germany.
Dormishian dedicated his award to veteran Iranian makeup artist Abdollah Eskandari and also remembered late renowned filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami at the closing ceremony of the festival that was held at the Braunschweig City Hall on Saturday evening, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Sunday.
“This award is important for me, so I dedicate it to one of Iran’s prominent artists, master Abdollah Eskandari, the makeup designer for ‘Lanturi’,” Dormishian said in his acceptance speech.
He also called Eskandari the “honor and identity of Iranian cinema.”
Starring Navid Mohammadzadeh, Maryam Palizban and Baran Kowsari, the film tells the story of a gang member Pasha who runs amok because Maryam, a socially committed, self-confident journalist, does not reciprocate his feelings. The badly injured young woman demands lex talionis – the law, applicable in Iran, of “an eye for an eye”.
